The idea of loneliness has got to be one of the most misunderstood behavioral concepts on the face of the earth. Dramatists and romantics would have us think that loneliness is Shakespearean or melodramatic. I beg to differ. Real-authenic loneliness -- while it could be melodramatic -- is more often raucous, loud and acts foolish in a crowd. It attempts to deceive itself and anyone else who might stop to listen and share a bear. If you frequent nightspots, bars and such, you can observe loneliness, first-hand. It is the "life of the party," but it fools no one. This poem is about that charade. |
