Accuracy in Speaking Advanced Spoken Grammar and Usage for Japanese Students of English
Accuracy in Speaking was developed for use with students of English who are truly at an advanced level. It was developed for Japanese students and deals with some of the particular problems that Japanese students of English face (the book may be used selectively with students of other L1s). Accuracy in Speaking teaches spoken grammar and usage. Almost all grammar books teach written grammar but spoken grammar is different in many ways. In Accuracy in Speaking students study the way native speakers of English really speak. Recordings of native speakers speaking on various subjects form the core of each lesson. About half the speakers are Canadian and the others from the US, Scotland, England, Australia, and New Zealand. To ensure high quality the original recordings and masters were made using digital recording equipment. Accuracy in Speaking leads the students to notice the difference between the grammar of the native speakers and their own grammar. It provides them with opportunities to practice the grammar and usage presented and to receive feedback from the teacher. In addition to classroom activities, the book provides extensive homework assignments most of which have sample answers and can be completed independently. Accuracy in Speaking requires a teacher who can combine
native
speaker intuition with conscious knowledge of grammar. In this
way, the teacher can help the students by providing guidelines that
they can follow. Sample answers are provided to help the teacher
start this process.
