Minstrel Boy / Knocknagow Jig / Banish Misfortune / Yellow Tinker - The set's title is dedicated
to the band's drummer known fondly as "Stretch" who puts down his drumsticks and picks up
his mean electric guitar. First track is Hank Marvin'ish. For non-British readers Hank Marvin is
the lead guitarist of The Shadows who backed Cliff Richard for some time and have made fine
albums since the 60s to date. If you've seen the movie "Local Hero" you've heard Hank Marvin.
Now I've said that I think this sounds like Bert Weedon. Anyone heard Bert? Is he still alive?

Iona Boat Song / The Fair Maid Of Barra / The Galley Of Lorne / Come O'er The Sea - Real cheek-to-cheek music. I would love to know the writer's inspiration for the first tune. He must have had his own boat rather than took the public ferry (visitors to Iona will know what I mean) but a visit to Iona whould be on everybody's "life things to do" list - and stay overnight!! The third tune in the set is probably a beautiful tune you know, but never knew the title. |

He Ro Hi Rum / Iomadh Rud tha Dhith Ohm / Fear a Phige / A Bheil Cadal Orr -
Here it is, all you expect from Scottish music will all the skips and crescendo snare.
Perfect music for home aerobics. You'll be dusting off your kilt and cracking open that
forgotten box of Walker's shortbread in no time. (notes by John of Celtic Ways) |
