Post-Mortem Pre-Op was pre-conceived seven years ago as a one-man industrial noise project by Baal. Under this name, he produced and recorded a substantial number of tracks, many of which appeared on a handful of self-produced cassette-only demos. Produced in The Four-Track Abattoir, these low-fidelity analog recordings provided a perfect dumping ground for its founder's burgeoning musical interests. (Prior to this, he functioned as either vocalist or guitarist for innumerable, short-lived punk outfits since 1985, but found himself limited in far too many capacities.) As time progressed and his means of recording improved, Post-Mortem Pre-Op began encompassing a wider range of musical interests, the evolution of which can be heard in those early recordings.
Following a year-long, grueling search for a guitarist to compliment it's newer sound, Post-Mortem Pre-Op found itself lucky to sign on the talents of Mark Ely (who also remains the frontman for the established alternative rock outfit Beef Kurtain). Mr. Ely's skill has undeniably added more depth to the band's digitally-contrived sound, giving it yet another edge over similar fare.
Recently, they finished recording a second four-song demo that contains more tracks scheduled to appear on their first three albums, Confessions of a Soft Machine, Piltdown Messiah and Another God's Passing, with a third to be finished in June. Post-Mortem Pre-Op has been on hiatus the last six months, but Baal is currently finishing the demos for their first album, which is written and awaiting label interest.
