An award-winning songwriter and recording artist with Multi-Platinum credentials,
John Cafferty is not only "The Man Who Made Eddie Cruise," he is the personification
of live rock performances that have defined an entire genre of music - shore music.
After playing together for more than 25 years, from the beachside haunts of their
native Rhode Island to concert venues nationwide, John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown
Band bring both passion and hard-won perspective to their musical careers. Cafferty,
and Beaver Brown saxophonist Michael Antunes (who actually appeared as the saxophonist
in the Eddie and the Cruisers movie) know much about winning and losing. By 1982, despite
their status as one of the strongest club bands in the Northeast, they still had no
recording contract.
So, they took the risk of writing and performing the music for a yet-to-be released
movie, Eddie and the Cruisers. The film became a blockbuster hit and Cafferty's rendition
On the Dark Side flew straight to Number One on the Rock Charts, while Tender Years
Ten broke the Rock Chart Top Ten. Based on the strength of Cafferty's songs, the
soundtrack for Eddie and the Cruisers was released by Scotti Bros/CBS in May
1983 and eventually sold more than three million copies. The risk paid off as John
Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band got their own record deal with Scotti Bros./CBS.
John Caffety and the Beaver Brown Band's 1985 debut, Tough All Over album
yielded two more huge hits. The title track, Tough All Over, scored JC his second
Rock Chart Number One, while C.I.T.Y. reached the Number 9 on the Rock Charts.
The powerful rocker, Voices of America's Sons, was chosen for the Rocky IV soundtrack.
John Cafferty still resides in Rhode Island when not touring the nation with his Beaver Brown Band.
