"You ever hear people talk about a verse? You hear people say they're going to kick a verse, they're going to spit a verse, etc. But how many of them do you think actually know what a verse is? In the dictionary you'll find that it means a stanza of poetry, or a section of the bible. However, our word verse comes from a Latin word that means to turn. Back then it was used in reference to farming i.e. to verse the soil meaning to till and turn the soil...to make it ready for the planting. Now think of this application when used to describe what we do with rap. To kick a verse would mean then to turn the soil of the soul, and of the mind. To kick a verse means to prepare a person and make them ready for the planting not of seeds of crops, but rather the seeds of ideas, of ideology, and of independent thought which will (given time) take root and grow into a fruitful harvest." - Khabral
