Welcome to "The Sound of Chrysler"! This will be the home of Nationwide Clyde, Inc.'s compilation project, "The Sound of Chrysler", an entire CD of new music featuring samples taken from the electronic voice alert system such as that found on a 1984 Chrysler New Yorker. Artists wishing to participate can either use the samples below, or, if they're quite ambitious, go out and sample a Chrysler on their own! This system was installed in many Chryslers, predominantly the E-class (K) New Yorker pictured to the left, as well as LeBarons, Lasers, and Dodge Daytonas, among others. Any noise made by any '80's front-wheel-drive Chrysler (K- and K-derived cars) is fair game for the Sound of Chrysler. In fact, folks, go nuts! While the electronic voice is meant to be used in every song (it's the nature of the project), supplemental samples could even be wailing on sheetmetal and glass with a crowbar or 10-lb. sledge! Enjoy...The Sound of Chrysler!

| Song Credit: Tim Hansen/Mouth Reliant Back in 1997 or so, when I was in high school, I wrote a MIDI theme to a video documentary I made on Thomas Hardy called "Hard TV". As it turns out, the three tones generated by the Chrysler are at exact harmonic matches with the Hard TV Theme. I ran them all together in Cool Edit Pro, adding a smidge of distortion to the pianos and a few other effects. Hence, this. A note to all you participants in The Sound Of Chrysler. This will not be on the official CD. In fact, this is primarily a benchmark of sorts. This song is probably what I consider to be the bottom limit on The Sound Of Chrysler. To clarify, I hope all songs submitted will be better than this one. It is, however, true that the artist is his own harshest critic, so send in those submissions just the same! |
