"The essence of Isak Roux's art and artistry can be expressed in three
words: listenability, honesty and integrity, which gives him a very
special place on South Africa's contemporary classical music scene."
"ISAK ROUX - Groove to the African pulse! ... Entrain with the
rhythm of the lands across the big waters! ... Dig the ZULU
wizardry! ...And never forget: Africa is not a country - it's a whole
CONTINENT! ..." - George Koumantzelis of AEOLIAN KID.

Township Guitar was inspired by Zulu guitar music. Rhythm functions as the generic element and the Kwela rhythm in the B-section contains various hints at fragments of the township melody 'Izintombi zase kwatazi' which appears as a coda. | MP3.com CD: African Journal - buy it!

With this paraphrase of a section from my Missa Brevis, I wanted to emulate the joyousness and exhuberance of township jazz and gospel music. The main theme is in fact merely a variation of the C-major scale. The interludes are freely improvised. | MP3.com CD: African Journal - buy it!
