Brooding, but uplifting piece about the hope that can be found in the midst of sham, drudgery, and waiting. Or maybe it's just about a bird and a game of poker... This song has a special place in our hearts, as the police came and shut down our rehearsal while we were in the midst of writing it (darned Seattle noise ordinances). Ira was working at a casino when he wrote the lyrics to this one. |

Crush is a simple sketch expressing that far-away fascination one can have with someone - the kind that makes you weak - the kind that makes the words catch in your throat. Every once in a while, Ira sings "crutch" instead of "crush" when performing live, just to give the song a modern, co-dependent twist. :) |

Vacancy was originally written on an acoustic guitar, and the entire thing was wrapped around two chords. As the band attacked it, it turned into a very moody rock song. Lyrically this is probably the most cryptic Common Heroes song. Ira refuses to explain what this song is about. Sorry. |
