FROM THE BAND'S PRESS KIT:
Formed in the autumn of 2000, The Jim Clayton/Andrew Scott Group is already being called Canadas premier soul-jazz ensemble. Featuring pianist Jim Clayton (Greenhouse, The Second City) and guitarist Andrew Scott (One Step Beyond, Merl Saunders), the group couples strong melodic writing with infectious grooves for a singularly unique and exciting sound. With a strong stage show, a forthcoming debut album slated for summer 2001, and the chance to establish themselves as a formidable presence on Smooth Jazz radio, Clayton and Scott are confident 2001 will be their year.
Co-leaders Jim Clayton and Andrew Scott are stalwarts of the Toronto music community. Both have earned valuable experience performing in the citys many jazz clubs, r&b venues, and musical theatres. With this latest project, the duo meets on smoother ground, fusing their respective songwriting and performing talents to form a sound as unique as their influences.
Clayton and Scotts music cuts a wide swath, from glorious ballads to danceably smooth funk. The common denominator pervading their music is a strong melodic sense, giving an identifiable voice to their fresh sound.
Backed by one of Canadas strongest rhythm sections, the groups creative combination of smooth guitar and jazz keyboards has been winning audiences throughout Toronto. In The Jim Clayton/Andrew Scott Group, years of performance experience have coalesced into a smooth, street-smart sound.
Currently, the group is benefiting from a strong industry and radio push, adding aggressive marketing strategies to an already impressive arsenal of talents. And with the imminent launch of their website (www.waterfrontjazz.com) and a growing e-mailing list, the group hopes to make its initial impact in the musical world of cyberspace.
Thanks for listening!

A cool guitar feature. The verse hints at Pat Metheny's "We Live Here", while the chorus has a Larry Carlton sound. Rhodes electric piano holds down the groove. |
