to say about UGM:
"dj
underground mastermind, hailing from knoxville, tennessee, of all places, rains
upon us an almost biblical sense of percussive vengeance.
i have not heard many songs where the drum
work was so extremely logical, natural, and aggressive that it carried the
entire song without the help of any kind
of melody or chord progression. i believe that dj underground mastermind
has a unique potential to program drum tracks that can do just that.
"carry". with this particular direction and style in mind, we
move forward into our exploration of a very talented musician."
"first
off, let me begin by saying that the climbing tempo intro to "piece
1 movement 1" has got to be one of the most creative and unique
intro's i have ever been subjected to. i
found that by the time the drums kicked in at full volume in the climax i
had to physically restrain myself from involuntarily
smashing my face through my laptop's expensive lcd screen...
yes, it was that good. "piece 1 movement 1" is from start to
finish, a 5 minute 48 second percussive s&m session where you find
yourself strapped to a table with a
gag-ball in your mouth having strange and
exotic actions performed upon your body without being able to do anything
about it. although there is hardly any variation, this song reaches
climax more often than sting on viagara,
i wish i could do that. this is just simply what a true club tune should
be: loud, in your face, and one hell of a fun little ride. i would love to
hear this one played at ear bleeding decibel levels while i'm foaming at
the mouth unable to stop wiggling my rump. although extremely repetitive
and perhaps a touch too long, this is trance after all, and underground
mastermind performs it with fervor."
"i
think dj underground mastermind really has something with his "piece
1" work, and should continue developing that
edgy, in your face, punch you in the gut high energy
style. i see in this artist nothing
but talent, skill, and a mastery of all things percussive;
however, i think that perhaps a melodic approach mixed with his mastery of
edginess would create an unforgettable symphony of noise that will place
him in the annals of electronic music history. definitely, this is someone
to keep an eye on." -gabriel winter
