Nearly lost forever to the ravages of time and ancient technology, this rare gem showcases the 22 July 1945 Hollywood Bowl debut performance of renowned operatic soprano Marina Koshetz. It is from the personal archives of Ms. Koshetz, curated by Ann and John Crawford; and this, the original recording she had made that evening, was recently rescued in the studio and digitally refurbished before the source material had dissipated entirely. Arranged by Marina Koshetz with family friend Leopold Stokowski conducting the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, this performance features 'Air from the Opera, "Tzar's Bride"' and 'The Nightingale and the Rose' by Rimskey-Korsakoff, 'Reverie and Dance from "Fair at Sorotchinsk"' by Moussorgsky and 'Georgian Melody' by Rachmaninoff. Serge Rachmaninoff was a close family friend of both Marina and her acclaimed operatic soprano mother Mme. Nina Koshetz, who was personally given the song in manuscript by Mr. Rachmaninoff. Nina Koshetz was also responsible for the subsequent English translations of Rachmaninoff, Rimsky-Korsakoff, and others (published in 1949 by G. Schirmer, Inc. under the title: "Nina Koshetz Album Of One Hundred Russian Songs"). | Length:20:33 |
