The Roxbury (Vermont) Union Congregational Church Choir was founded in 1985, and stayed intact until 1989.
The recordings on this page were the made in 1988, under the direction of the choir's founder, composer and conductor Dennis Báthory-Kitsz. The lovely reverb of this church can be heard, as well as the efforts of a small but remarkable group of amateur singers, ranging in ages from 18 to 77. This group sang hundreds of compositions and gave numerous concerts in its five-year existence.
For a full description, program notes, texts, and other information see the Roxbury Union Congregational Church Choir archive page. Also visit the group's former baritone, composer David Gunn and the refuge of some former members, the Civil War singers Hardtack and Homespun.

Sumer is Icumen In is really secular, but we have sung it in church each spring as a kind of welcome; it is the oldest round in the English language, tracing its origins to the early 14th Century. |

When Jesus Wept is William Billing's remarkable round which includes a powerfully evocative dissonance as the words "wept", "flowed", "groaned" and "guilty" sound together. |
