After I got back from my trip to Cuba, I couldn't get the place out of my mind. In my dreams at night, I was still in Havana. I had only stayed two weeks, but I was "homesick" for it! This song is a result of that feeling. The coro means "Cuba is calling, listen to the music." The tune starts off with a rumba, followed by the coro, the horns state the theme, then Cuban trumpeter Luis Eric plays a blazing solo. This tune is one of the more traditional feeling on the CD, and I thought that with the rumba and the lyric, it made a good introduction for the album's exploration of Cuban music. Enjoy it and play it loud! |

A high energy up-tempo descarga with a smoking flute solo by Artie Webb (Tito Puente/Ray Barretto), followed by my piano solo and then Nengue Hernandez and Jimmy Branly trade off in a percussion duel. This tune is probably getting the most airplay of all the stuff on the CD, and it nevers fails to fill the dance floor when we play it live. Enjoy! |

I wrote this song just a few days before we went into the studio. The title is just the answer to the question: what's this one called? Art Webb takes another killer flute solo. |

This is the first song I wrote for the group. It starts off as a sultry cha cha chá, but then... well, you'll find out. |

With a groove loosely inspired by Los Van Van, this is quintessential Mamborama. Play this one loud... |

This is one of my favorite tunes on the CD. It's what Mamborama is all about--a blend of Cuban ritmo and Norte Americano Jazz and R&B sensibilities. Art Webb turns in another killer flute solo, and John Gronberg burns on trumpet. |

From the board mix of a concert we did at the Huntington Beach Pier on July 14, 2001. Not the greatest sound quality, but the energy is there. Check out the percussion duel between Jimmy Branly and Nengue Hernandez towards the end. |

A slightly shorter, more radio-freindly edit of this tune. Should make for a shorter download as well. |
