Mister Charley is an eclectic, acoustic,
improvisational (and somewhat improbable) string
trio, often accompanied by other friends banging
on drums or hooting and hollering. The personnel
are:
Chuck Puckett - guitar and lead vocals.
Shelley Heard - mandolin, occasional guitar,
occasional vocals (lead and otherwise).
Richard Eade - bass, guitar, more occasional
vocals of both kinds.
Actually, with regard to "vocals", we tend to
use the word in its broadest sense, and the rule
is "sing when the spirit moves you", with the
assumptions that a) the spirit moving you is
benign, and b) it knows something about melody
and harmony. In our experience, this has been
true at least as many times as it has not.
As for repertoire, it covers a wide range, from
blues to bluegrass, Grateful Dead to Pink Floyd
(acoustic!), Bob Marley to pure folk tunes, plus
a whole host of original material. All of it
jazzified, reggaeified, bodiddleyfied, and
southern-fried.
Like we said, eclectic.

The tape was running and we invented this one. It's pretty much how we work, I guess. An instrumental. |
