James Kreger has been noted as
"one of the foremost cellists of his generation."
A recipient of numerous honors, including
the Piatigorsky Award and a top prize at the
International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow,
James Kreger's New York Carnegie debut as winner
of the Concert Artists Guild auditions was
heralded by The New York Times as
"a memorable event." His extensive concerto and
recital appearances have taken him throughout
the United States, Eastern and Western Europe,
and the Orient. He has received a Martha Baird
Rockefeller Grant and has been a featured artist
at major music festivals, such as the Casals,
Mostly Mozart, Marlboro, Ravinia, Tanglewood,

Andras Schiff, Richard Goode, Oscar Shumsky, Felix Galimir, Jean-Philippe Collard, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Maureen Forrester,
David Golub, Garrick Ohlsson, and Wynton Marsalis,
and has appeared with such groups as Music From
Marlboro, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln
Center, and the Vermeer and Tokyo String Quartet.
He has made solo recordings for Dutch and German
radio, National Public Radio in the United States,
as well as chamber recordings for the NHK in
Japan and has been featured on KBS-TV in Korea
and on PBS-TV and CBS-TV Camera Three in the
United States. At the invitation of Janos Starker,
he was a guest soloist at the American Cello
Congress. James Kreger is a member of the faculty
at the Juilliard School, where he graduated with
the school's highest honors, the Morris Loeb
Prize and the Felix Salmond Award. He is highly
sought after as a teacher, as evidenced by his
multiple engagements with the New World Symphony,
at the invitation of Michael Tilson Thomas, as
well as his numerous master classes in Asia,
Europe, and the United States.
He has been honored by invitations from the
National Endowment for the Arts to serve as a
recital grants panelist. James Kreger has
recorded for CBS Masterworks (Sony), Guild Music,
Koch Discover International, Leonarda, Melodiya,
