This track is probably my proudest accomplishment in terms of amalgamating different sound sources. The percussion has OPL3 drums, which I made using the standard general midi driver for my Soundblaster AWE64Gold, plus a short sample from the 909 kick and 808 open hihat in ReBirth. All of the melodic sounds are from the D-50, without any external filters that I can remember. In addition, there is a sample of rain which I recorded from my house on a rainy night a ways back, on which I tweaked the eq on and applied a flanger to, given it a real neat quality. Then there is a short tb-303 loop sampled from ReBirth. But all of this stuff is all chopped up. Then I topped it off, so to speak, with spoken word samples from Wolfgang Peterson's classic film "Die Unendliche Geschichte", which I feel hauntingly express the theme: natural processes by which memories are forgotten.

Juno 60 + Cakewalk + improv vocals = "What do you want me to say?" "What can I say?" A one-person overdub jam. no midi manipulation. minimal filters (one dist filter on one of the percussive tracks). not all the timing is exact; not all the pitches are exact, but if I re-recorded them, it wouldn't be raw. so what else can I say?

This song was my first attempt at electronic music, back in 1993. I'm planning to release it on my upcoming cd as kind of a historical perspective, and also 'cause I don't think it's that bad! anyone out there from the old skool knows what .mod's are? Once I get my own website up, I'll put the .mod file on there too. Here's the original text that I wrote in the mod: "This was written in 1993 by A41276 of Northborough MA in the USA and I know its not all that great but hey its my first try." The lack of apostrophes isn't my ignorance, but because you can't have them in the desc! :) Someone pointed out to me that both the name I went by then and the new name I go by are a letter followed by numbers. Go figure.
