Welcome to the Schmangg Jam!
Schmangg Jam II represented Detroit Techno. Downtown, at Sigma6 in Harmony Park, we formed two concentric circles of electronic gear: 808's, 303's, Juno's, turntables, effects racks, computers, synths, samplers, as well as a wealth of live instruments like saxophones and congas. We even had a shortwave radio. Unfortunately most of the tapes were badly corrupted, but we rescued enough footage to display what an innovative electronic sound was created that evening, the likes of which will never be reproduced. I recommend tracks "Electronic Sax", "Shortwave", and "HappyBirds".

My favorite ambient track of the Schmangg Jam II. Melodic and slow, the rhythm begins almost like an organic pulse. The creation of this one involved one musician, Jason Mockler, composing part of the song from 2000 miles away from the studio. |
