While the title (and the name of the album it came from) are puns based on the seminal psychedelic band GONG, this music seems to have more to do with some of the more tasteful German bands from the early '70s. Elements of Cluster, Can, and the entire Cosmic Courier family come to mind. That's not to say it's without its English influence as well--it's obvious The Dits have listened to both Fripp/Eno albums a time or two! | MP3.com CD: Dits 2000 est Mort (Disc One) - buy it!

A massive slab of improv that's nearly 20 minutes long, this is the first section of the second set. This was the "open stage" part of the show, and evidently the first 64 minutes of advanced free improvisation kept all the "let's jam in E" types at bay. Tom decided to take a breather, the core trio of Scott/Pink/Matt decided to all stay on, and a trio of new players (all friends of The Dits) came on stage for a cramped, lengthy, joyous romp that is heard here in its entirety as a trilogy of tracks. Dan Meyer provides most of the brass, Mother Mike plays obtuse banjo, and Ken Thornton (The Sediments' lead guitarist) jumps in on Tom's drum kit and provides some wonderful percussion in his first-ever attempt at free improv. Astounding. | MP3.com CD: Dits 2000 Live, Vol. 2 - buy it!

This could best be described as an album-side's worth of The Dits in Can mode. That's assuming the reader is hip to both vinyl and seminal Krautrock bands. This is the first track from disc two of "Our Sunday Best". The second half kick-off, if you will. | MP3.com CD: Our Sunday Best (Disc Two) - buy it!
