Jeremy Brooker, baryton with Marie Vassillou, soprano and Joanna Levine, cello. Another release on the Esoteric Binaural Label which explores the unusual. Here Jeremy Brooker plays the Baryton, which is a cello like instrument with thumbed resonant strings behind the usual fingered fret. He is joined by Marie Vassiliou – soprano and Joanna Levine – cello and violone. Early Music and two works by contemporary composers: Rare Birds by Stephen Gibson and Daphne to Apollo by Stephen Dodgson. Another unique release worth exploring. |

G.P Hall Guitars & Electronic Sound Sculptures. During 1999, G.P. Hall toured the UK visiting a number of Clubs, Theatres and Festivals. He was followed around by a dummy head microphone (and a camera crew for a Channel 4 documentary!). Here we present some of the performances captured plus some acoustic compositions specially recorded for this release. G.P. Hall is unique, and the single microphone approach of recordist Mike Skeet particularly captures this uniqueness. |

Here is a composer who has been curiously neglected. In cooperation with his son Gwydion Brooke, the British Music Label is keen that Holbrooke's works are heard and they prove to be delghtful. The first release has works previously issued on LP. His clarinet quintet (mono recording), piano quartet and five of his traditional English, Scottish and Irish melodies are worth hearing. |
