Pianist-composer Horace Silver remains an enduring force in defining today's contemporary straight-ahead jazz sound. As one of the main creative masters of the hardbop movement, Silver has continued to explore new territories with both his compositions and arrangements. For more than four decades, his quintets have prominently featured trumpet and saxophone pairings. Silver's powerful percussive bass lines and lyrical melodic approach have produced numerous well-known jazz standards including The Preacher, Song For My Father, Senor Blues, Nica's Dream and Sister Sadie. After a 28-year tenure at Blue Note, Silver finds himself with both a new label and a new recording. |
