Gary Dranch commissioned this new concerto for clarinet and string orchestra from Brazilian composer Daniel Wolff. The World Premiere took place on April 9, 2000 in Brazil. It is a very upbeat Brazilian work. The first movement of the work is marked "Allegro Moderato". The movement is in Sonata-Allegro form, and contains a very dynamic "moto perpetuo" cadenza for soloist. |

The 2nd movement of the Daniel Wolff Concerto for Clarinet and String Orchestra is marked "Expressivo e Cantabile". The movement is in a tripartite form, consisting of a melancholic theme first stated in the strings and then taken up by the soloist. The middle section is stated by a Contrabass solo, and is very rhythmic in nature. There is a fugal section that follows. The movement comes to close with a rousing restatement of the opening theme. |

This is the 3rd Movement of Daniel Wolff's Concerto for Clarinet and String Orchestra. It is marked "Allegro Ritmando". After a brief introduction, the unifying motif of the whole concerto is restated by the clarinet solo. The new twist is the accompaniment of the embellished solo line by the bass in a typical "baiao" Brazilian rhythm. This is characterized by a bouncy, syncopated dotted-rhythm. This tour-de-force comes to a rousing climactic close. |
