The "as-if" sessions had already begun, with mics splayed about the attic (including the Radio Shack PZM's velcroed to the roof..), and then came the snow, followed by freezing rain. I was up there when Hawk came up and we began to improvise. The sound of the rain on snow (on the roof) was uncanny, and that's where this "song" came from. A jungle groove rant from the late tribe era, "Busy.." was and is a live favorite. Somehow it seemed to fit into the "as-if" lineup, plus I wanted to "do it right". Like much of the rest of "as-if", "The Long Haul" has a tactile feel to it. Mostly it's just acoustic guitar and vocals, but the sentiment is what makes it distinctive. A simple song, emotionally naked, I believe it's one of my best. | MP3.com CD: "as-if" - buy it!
