This is one of the most interesting of Russian epics which tells a story of a musical duel between Tsar Sobaka and a troupe of wandering minstrels. Ultimately, the power of the minstrel's art and their spiritual qualities triumph over the tsar who wishes to destroy them. The melody and accompaniment were reconstructed from old recordings and early collections of Russian folk music. A number of traditional slavic instruments was used in the song: sopilka (flute) and bandura (Ukrainian stringed instrument) were played by J. Kytasty; the second bandura - by I. Temkin. In addition, L. Biagi played percusion. |
