Written over the course of one year, 1912, by a child of 14, this huge score by Erich Korngold is bigger than anything Mozart could have achieved at the same age. It pre-empts a maturity not found in many twice or thrice his age. Listen to the "Motif of the happy heart" at the opening--an upward pair of fourths on the strings. Korngold (as well as myself) was to use many variations of that theme in this Sinfonietta and future works, for stage and film. |

For the Turner Film competition, similar in some respects to Korngold and Williams film music--intense fiery emotion between Garbo and Gilbert characters. |
