who is Jo?
Who is that woman? You know, the one who's soothing my troubled spirit with her warm vocal melodies? The one playing the guitar or viola? The one with that unorthodox funk band? Well, it's funk and jazz and folk and blues really. What, you still don't know who I'm talking about? She's that classically trained yet intuitive musician who somehow makes experimentation and simplicity share the same parking space. Headlining at Ronnie Scott's during Birmingham's Songwriters Festival, promoting her debut album "Palace Place" herself, travelling around the UK weeping out songs of dissention, affection and redemption. Does that ring a bell? No, not Joni Mitchell! No, no, you're thinking of k.d.lang. This one's a young Scottish lass. Sock off-blowing stuff! And as far as I can tell she's still getting better -- Joel Wilson (Throwstar)
