Hope it goes well): Eden's Rage is currently working on new songs for its next album, tentatively titled "Windswept". Eight songs are decent enough to be called (well, sort of) complete, and they are: "Beautiful Day", "A Time For Truth", "Windswept", "Ignore The False Prophet", "Too Far Afield", "Identity Crisis", "The Evil That Men Do", and an as-yet untitled instrumental. (Originally, The Song That Never Ends (Part 3) was to be included on the record, but since there are already two (possibly three) instrumentals, it was thought best just to save it for another time.) The new songs are somewhat of a departure from the sounds of "Civil Unrest" (Isn't every album considered a departure from somethingorother nowadays?), showcasing not only different structures, but a much wider vocal range than previously documented. The reasoning behind the title was the epic feel and large spectrum of the different compositions. (For instance, "Beautiful Day" (which was written before U2 came out with a song of the same name, thank you very much) is in a major key. To my knowledge, we've never done that before. Plus, as a nice counterpoint to the musical brutality of such songs as "A Time For Truth" and "Ignore The False Prophet", there is the epic "Too Far Afield, with a full three and a half minute distortion-less intro, and the as-yet untitled free-form jazz ensemble.) The album's completion date is bound to be before the summer of 2001, but nothing is definite yet, seeing as writing is not yet complete. "Windswept" promises to be a landmark in Eden's Rage's career, possibly providing them with enough impetus to finally get out of Matt's parents basement and play more than two gigs a year(!). (Yay!) There is also talk of an EP featuring re-recordings of songs from "Civil Unrest" and "Eden's Rage", the horrendous first album. ("Well, it wasn't that horrendous, we just didn't know what we were doing yet." -Nick.) Proposed remakes would include "Death On The Turnpike", "Clenched In The Palm Of My Hand", "Tie The Serpent", and possibly an un-dirge-like take on "Apathy". (If such a neologistic term as un-dirge-like even makes sense, that is.) And if recording of this EP were to take place, it's almost certain another version of "Valentine", "Cave In My Soul", or whatever you want to call it would make it on, since it was featured as the closing track of both "Eden's Rage" and "Civil Unrest". Another bit of band related news involves guitarist Andy Zupke. According to a source which will remain anonymous, Andy has supposedly gone and gotten his tongue pierced. ("Which sorta makes me glad I'm the singer. If people have a hard enough time understanding my lyrics even when I annunciate, I shudder to think what would happen with a singer with a pierced tongue. Just joking, Andy!" -Nick, again.) Also, (just to be stupid, as we are aliken to do from time to time), Bassist Steve Philbert no longer works at Cousins. (Or Subway.) (Well, so much for THAT inside joke.) Oh yes. One more thing. Drummer/Vocalist Nick Nutter is in the final stages of editing his novel "The Grand Illusion", as well as putting the finishing touches on his poetry book "Poetic Terrorism". (Okay, so that has nothing to do with the band, but hey! I (Nick) ended up being the one to type this meandering communiqué, I might as well squeeze it for all it's worth!) ----And so ends the long-ass press statement.
