I came up with the term "Ded Serius" at a time I first started composing lyrical music.  Some of the stuff I write addresses some pretty deep feelings I chose to explore and expressed it musically when I determined what I felt it meant.  Sometimes, it's just silly stuff trying to get a laugh.  That's a lot of what existence has been like over the years to me; Van (class clown and consummate romantic).

I'm finishing up Fear of Success right now.  Aside from the Ostrich, it's a collection of songs that touch on a lot of experiences all of us humans share:  falling in love, staying in love, falling out of love, trying to determine why someone fell out of love with us; and, then apologizing to Mom and Dad and letting them know that what they were doing all the time they were trying to coach us into the world was all correct and we love them for our having survived it.

I guess the reason I'm useful to humanity in any way, if at all, is that I've found a decent way to put serius thoughts into perspective musically.
