Oseh Shalom was composed by Nurit Hirsh and is a setting from the liturgy. The prayer is a plea for God who "makes peace in the high places" to also make peace on earth for all people. The original was gutted; the harmony, time signature, solo section and arrangement are completely new. | MP3.com CD: One Jew's Views - buy it!

The source material for Homage (To The 2nd Generation) is based upon Frailach #3 from Kammen Volume 1. It has been adapted, arranged and performed in a form that bears little resemblance to the original. The spirit of our interpretation pays homage to the working musicians of yesteryear who raised their families by playing whatever it took to make a living. Many of the primary sources for first generation Klezmer music have been passed down by these highly skilled artists who would go from playing a jingle during the day to playing a bar mitzvah that night. These players brought an astonishing level of excellence and professionalism to every gig they played: they are my heroes. | MP3.com CD: One Jew's Views - buy it!

I composed Every Crying Mother in response to two events The winter after my first child, Sarah, was born, Sarajevo became a contested battleground. The entire civilian population was buffeted by war, disease and starvation. A mourning mother was shown on TV cradling her dead baby who had been mortally wounded when a rocket hit the marketplace. At that moment it struck me that the pain of a mother's loss was worse than any other imaginable. This song is dedicated to every mother who has ever lost a child. May Sarah, Rachel, Jordan and my wife Roberta never feel the pain of that woman in the marketplace. | MP3.com CD: One Jew's Views - buy it!
