New Reviews
02/19/02 The Asian Reporter, a Pacific Northwest
newspaper on Asian-American culture, interviewed me
about my career as an entertainer and concert promoter.
here. Following is an excerpt:
Classically trained pianist follows a different beat
Ten months ago Patricia Ju left the financial
security of her well-paying job as an Internet
software consultant to become a songwriter. Now,
she is barely getting by, and at times has had
to borrow money in order to make her mortgage.
And she couldn’t be happier.
"It's been quite a lifestyle change. I used to
eat out all the time and didn't know how to cook.
Now I burn chicken at home. I almost burned my
house down three times," laughed Ju.
-- Rose Barcellano, From The Asian Reporter, V12, #8 (February 19-25, 2002), page 11. --

Hot off the press comes the review I promised
about the GoGirls Music Fest 2000 Portland show
I coordinated and performed in. The full review is
here and below is the snippet
concerning moi (:
Bringing the night to a close in the Big Room
with her melodic piano ballads and stirring,
sometimes shocking, electronic dub rap, was
Portlands Patricia Ju. Her socially aware songs
have an intriguing darkish tinge which she
juxtaposes against songs with a sweeter edge.

TAXI® Road Rally 2000
I just came back from the TAXI® Road Rally conference in L.A. and all I can say is: My God!!
If you are a serious singer, songwriter, composer, or any mix of the
previous, you need to check this service out and go to their
Road Rally. Powerhouse panelists included hit songwriters/collaborators
Lamont Dozier (Supremes' "I Can't Help Myself", Phil
Collins' "Two Hearts" &c.), Shelley Peiken (Meredith Brooks' "Bitch"), and
handfuls of other top-notch creators. I should really list every
panelist to fully express the amazing talent represented, but
that would take up pages... visit the Taxi site
and see for yourself...

GoGirls Music Fest
The GoGirls Music Fest 2000
rocked! Our audience packed into both Mainstage and Acoustic
Rooms and grooved to the unique jazz-cool of Mary Lydia Ryan,
the rocking headliner Stephanie Schneiderman, the very talented
Singer/Songwriters of our Women in the Round, the tribal
beats and dancing of The Rhythm Givers, and my own
eclectic collection of downbeat electronica and piano/guitar
rock ballads. Great press reviews and photos to come!

"Amazing songwriting." "Beautiful.. very emotional.. I was so moved... I thought you just were amazing...
I really liked the emotional content of it all.. just a really true, authentic performance"
-- Stephanie Schneiderman, 1999 Lilith Fair Talent Search Grand Prize Winner --
"Notably beautiful."
-- Kate from Jellyhead --
"Top notch vocal and instrumental performances here... Cool groove and beautiful, lush
musical layering. Vocals are fragile yet passionate. [...] Nice guitar work [ ...] it's
melodic and catchy and works well with the ethereal vocal. Well done. [...] Beautiful
musical bed and the lyrical imagery is nice."
"[Her] musical root structure is beyond reproach, and conceptually [she] has fleshed out some novel ideas."
-- TAXI®: The Independent A&R Vehicle --

Demo. Dark minimalistic monotone opening breaks out into a full-on huge chorus. A simple twist of heart shifts you from the center of attention to being invisible. |
