Story Behind the Song
This was written 26 December 1999 after a terrible case of writer's block. I'd started seeing this amazingly beautiful girl and there was just this incredible electricity between us, the most breathtaking thing I'd ever felt. She was going through a rough time and as hard as I tried to avoid it, I fell for her. At the time I wrote it, we were still just friends and I hadn't kissed her yet, but wanted to so badly. Even though the odds were against it, I felt that someday, somehow, things would work out and we'd be together. But the line "Now we're both in tears/of joy and love/never ending" was oddly prescient. Three months later, she called to say we couldn't see each other anymore. We were both in tears, realizing that no matter how perfect we felt we were for each other, it just couldn't be.
Lyrics
Standing in the light
A fading moon
Snow is falling down
Wanting to hold you tight
Feel your breath on me
So close together now
I pull you into my arms
Press your lips to mine
I’ll wait forever my love
Ooo it’ll be okay
Someday
Ooo the stars will shine from heaven
And bless our love forever more
I don’t know what to say
To make it all okay
But I’m here for you
Now we’re both in tears
Of joy and love
Never ending
The time has come to part
The hardest thing to do
Is say good-bye my love
Ooo it’ll be okay
Someday
Ooo the stars will shine from heaven
And bless our love forever more
And she says, “Shhh.”
