If MP3.COM ever gets around to creating a genre called Jug Band Jugheads, I will be the first to switch this song to that category. Campy country comedy. |
Credits: Words and music by Craig Collins. Performed by Craig Collins (rubber-band-rhythm guitar, guitar riff, percussion, lead vocal) and Rob Simbeck (acoustic guitar, final lead guitar, stretched-to-the-limit harmonies) |
Story Behind the Song
Lennon wrote "Benefit for Mr. Kite" after seeing a circus poster, I wrote "Sweet Surprise" in high school after seeing a poster for FTD flower arrangements. There ends all similarities. Four tracks, recorded in Pittsburgh PA, 1973. You gotta be a hard-core Friends Help fan to love this one, but anyone in the right mood can enjoy it.
Lyrics
I fled through her hair
I ran up to her eyes
She loved me for it
I loved her Sweet Surprise
I came to her door
I spun away my head
She wanted me to stay
I said that I felt dead
REFRAIN:
I loved I loved I loved
Her sweet surprise
I could I could I would
Look in her eyes
I managed her arm
I reached to her then
She wrinkled her nose
And told me to say when
She velveted the door
She glistened in the room
I couldn't peel my eyes
off of her Sweet Surprise
REFRAIN
