Story Behind the Song
well, we needed a song to go with this really beefy-sounding drum sample we had just picked up - seriously, we wrote this one in around 1985; who remembers? all we know is that, car metaphors and all, it's a great song to blow the speed limit to - not that we'd endorse such flagrant defiance of the law or anything..... besides, if you're listening to the lyrics, you should be in the back seat, not the driver's seat.
Lyrics
First You Fall
I know your mama told you not to misbehave
With the boys that you knew from Sunday school
But you know you can end up going to your grave
If you listen to all your mother's rules
I know your father told you good girls don't do that
But he never said just what they do
Well, I've been up and down, and I've seen where it's at
And what your daddy told you wasn't true
Now you've met someone who makes you feel
Like everything in life is real
Chorus:
Take off the brakes, baby, don't you stall
There ain't nothing like it when first you fall
Kick out the jams, c'mon, have a ball
Cause there ain't nothing like it when first you fall
I know your teachers told you not to do no wrong
You've got a reputation to uphold
But you can hold up something only for so long
And it won't keep you warm when nights are cold
Well, there comes a time you must decide
To play the game or run and hide
Chorus
Well, there comes a time in all our lives
To climb on board and take that ride
Chorus
