Story Behind the Song
I wrote this as a performance piece to accompany Psiren Psalm I. The strings open the work and half way through the Siren's start their alluring song. The female voices intertwine and cresendo as the drums begin their martial beat. In the stage presentation the performers are accompanied on stage by a man dressed as the pope that rises from the center of the stage. The crummers appear at the back of stage dressed in drum and fife attire and ribbon dancers behind them. All these images represent death;the sirens lead the sailors to their death on the rocks below, the pope represents all who have died for the church and because of the church's crusades, and the drummers represent the ravages of war.
