Minimal musical theatrics allow the verbal resonance of Dark Phoenixx to shine through. Lyrically, this could be the tightest of the entire cd.
CD: Mad Lyricist   Label: Bare Bonze Productions
Credits: written, performed, arranged by Dark Phoenixx. Produced by Mr Calaco.

    Story Behind the Song
One of the earlier songs written by DP, this was written shortly after the name was changed from N Smuve. Dark Phoenixx was away at an Air Force school which was on a Navy base. He was constantly around aircraft, and that is where the flight metaphors came from in the 1st verse. This was the first song recorded by Dark Phoenixx and Mr Calaco, and this is actually the remix version. S.L.A.B stands for skills, lyrics, and beats.

    Lyrics
    Smuve off tha S.L.A.B

    verse 1 Dark Phoenixx
Auto pilots' on hold as I take over these flight controls
navigating your mind through a maze as old as Aristotle
where riding at full throttle, so adjust your goggles
    educating like Mrs Krebopple
this genuine article is so smooth and I have something to prove
to myself while making moves adjusting my controll to cruise
turn off the no smoking sign; I'm about to heat it up
oxygen is administered freely as I erupt
like a geyser; the loot's is in my site, and I'm banking right
the brightest entity in this night;an early riser
because the early bird catches the worm, that's what they say
so I'm creating my stuff in the morning of everyday
while everybody else is revising the old songs
so get it on, but make it good or leave it alone
you tried to get the platinum, but ended up with the chrome
the only place your hearing your records is in your home
and in your dome, your ego is shattered and busted
I listened for a half of a second, and I got disgusted
I guess that I'm just being naive, but I believe
that you gotta have some skill on this mic, or no reprieve
shall be given; I'm trying to make a billion, so I'm driven
to be the head of the midwest fam, like Michael Bivens
Phoenixx is scalding a brother with my verbal cauldron
but every oh-so-often, I'm using caution
to never underestimate my foe, because the competition
probably used to be your friend, and now they're on a mission
but I'm so heavily armored, impervious to spite
readjusting my flight height, and dipping in the night

Chorus: I'm coming Smuve off tha S.L.A.B
no need for jealousy, because you want to roll with me
    repeat four times

    Verse 2 Dark Phoenixx
my name ain't Smedley; don't be trying to play the like a medley
of your favorite tunes; I'm busting bubbles like party balloons
shining like gold dabloons; and soon
I plan to make every woman in this party swoon
Though I don't croon like an Eddie Levert; the red alert
sign crosses your face leaveing a trace of the hurt
that I inspire; maintain a safe distance because I'm wired
to my faith in my God; achieving everything desired
on this Earth; I'm finally going for what I'm worth
so stay out of my way, or get laughed at like Jokey Smurf
it wouldn't be the first time
I dropped a sucker yesterday with my worst rhyme
that's not a reason for brothers to run around and hate me
while all the ladies consistently underestimate me
I tell the women I'm Dark Phoenixx, and they start to laugh
I tell the women I wrap, and they start to laugh
I hit the stage and demolish a brother with my wrath
and when it's over, the ladies want to give me a bubble bath
I'm not having that; you missed a golden chance
because I'm not wearing Versace, and my name ain't Lance
a master of emcees, I'm quite a lyricist
still I need time to develop rhymes, because I insist
upon my stuff being better than anything before it
so when I show in your record stores, you can't ignore it
I'm as real as they come, no need to fake a thang
I don't be robbing and shooting, and I don't slang or bang
I never have, and I hope to God that I never will
but if I can't feed my family, think you know the deal
you gotta do what you gotta when you gotta survive
and Imma do what I gotta to keep my dream alive
to be the official lyricist of the planet, kid
riding on all world tires so I don't ever skid
on any continent, country, or in another town
I'm holding it down, the Cin-City Sound
rising over your head; you might drown, so when I come around
you better where protection, I'm leaving verbal scars
that George Clooney couldn't fix on ER

    chorus
    fade out.
