Story Behind the Song
The music from EFFIGY, as well as all of our music, is improvisational! What you are hearing is exactly what was recorded at the time. Porte Des Morts was named by the french fur traders and means 'death's doorway'. This refers to the infamous nautical passage between Door County, Wisconsin and Washington Island where so many ships floundered. The piece is haunting in its reflection.
