	Story Behind the Song This poem was written after I had a dream that repeated 27 times in the year 1991 and later, over the next 9 years, I dreamed it again and again. I know it says something about my future. In the dream I stand near the shore at the ocean. I don't know if it's the Atlantic or Pacific. There is a man waiting for me at the shore all dressed in white, but I am afraid to leave the land. A woman floating around me like a ghost encourages me to "go to the shore" -- a reassuring figure who tells me it's okay to be afraid, but don't let this fear keep me away from the beauty of the ocean and the love that man in the distance could give me. I wrote this poem in response to the dream, filling it up with all the feelings and images I felt and saw while caught in the current of the dream. I believe it is one of my best long poems.
