Story Behind the Song
This song was written while camped out on
the shores of a beautiful lonely lake at the
base of a mountain somewhere in the wilds
of the Yukon in Canada. It was inspired by
all the dogs I have met in my travels, and
the perspectives I have gained from them.
The song was recorded in my parent's basement
in Wisconsin after a year of restless
wanderings around the continent.
Lyrics
Me, I'm just a puppy dog,
Wagging puppy tail and I lick your hand.
I bark, but I don't bite.
Don't keep me out all night.
Capture my attention with a squeaky toy.
Me, I'm just a hound dog,
Just hanging around and I howl at the moon.
I sleep under the stairs,
But I really don't care.
Capture my affection with a rawhide bone.
I wag my tail and you pat my head.
I follow you around and you keep me out
of the kitchen
When you're cooking something good,
and I'm alwas underfoot.
I don't know why you're angry now,
I thought we were having fun
playing fetch with a stick.
The look in your eyes, the scowl on your face.
It seems we have it good,
Yes, we have a house and food.
But tomorrow, I guess you'd know
Better than me.
I'll have to wait and see.
