	This is a traditional spiritual song that was once found in shape-note hymnals before the turn of the century.

	Story Behind the Song I first heard this song on the Doc Watson Record "Home Again". According to the liner it was printed in shape-note hymnals dating back into the 1870's. Doc's arrangment had a particular appeal to me because it was done acapella - in the fashon of many songs learned from shapenote hymnals. It is very raw and spiritual sounding. My arrangement draws out the first note of each set so that other vocalists can get on key with the lead. On the second set I made up extra words for the bass singer. I sang all three parts and left the mistakes in to give a sense of realism. I hope the listner is encouraged to sing along and that he or she gets a feel for how these kind of songs were done in Churches a century ago that couldn't afford instruments. Although I Recorded this in one take, it took several hours of experimenting to get the parts arranged the way I felt would sound original. A slight reverb effect is present to give an out door mountain feeling.
