Story Behind the Song
Back in the old days of FT, we came up with tunes by playing around on the synthesizer. We barely could play it, but we occasionally would come up with catchy, simple tunes. We wrote the lyrics spontaneously. As soon as there were the basic building blocks for a song, we'd improvise the rest.
This is a remake of one such improvised song. In this recording, we layered the new instruments and vocals on top of the original, thus preserving all the notes and rhythms.
On a serious note, the song explores the ability of music to preserve ones cultural heritage.
This was just a fun and random way to end the album.
Lyrics
Keep the beat
Keep it loud and strong
For you, my son,
Are going home
Keep the beat in foreign lands
And keep the beat in friendly (burly) hands
Keep the beat
In guitars and drums
Keep the beat in song, my son
To you I give this precious gift
And with it may your spirits lift
The people all around the world
See musics flag unfurled
