...normal now. Punky technoid thing. An old song for us but a brand new recording. The original version contained spoken samples with, er, shall we say, unresolved copyright issues. We completely rearranged the song, streamlined it, made it faster, and sort of more psychedelic, as befits its hallucinatory lyrics. | MP3.com CD: a valuable addition to.... - buy it!

Story Behind the Song
This is the fifth studio recording we've done of this song, mainly because it's an old song but perennially popular, and the first four versions weren't quite right for one reason or another. Lyrically, it's a kind of anti-drugs hallucination. Not that it's any of our business what people do for fun, of course but we just wanted to set the record straight about exactly how subversive it is to anaesthetise yourelf to the absurdities of our modern lifestyle. Don't believe what the employees of the manufacturers of the merchandise tell you. Drugs are the opium of the masses. Radium88 welcome debate on this and all subjects.
Lyrics
up from his testcard tv trance
the doctor laughs & throws his dice.
miming with one mad glance
his catchphrase ritual sacrifice.
rebellion is abdication
a moments scorching ecstacy
the dazzled eyes of a generation
show concern so recklessly.
-everything looks normal now
shockwave dance all along the wire
from a satellite of love broadcast
they're mixing test-tubes of desire
found a cure for life at last
where dial-a-dreamgirl names are listed
anyone stops to wonder how,
with their heads all chemically twisted
everything looks normal now.
-everything looks normal now.
a million dislocated souls
with no memory of loss,
infinity of separation,
christ strung out on a neon cross.
in the distance a siren wails,
car exhaust breathes a lonely sigh,
splintered sparks shine in your eye,
whispering goodbye.
-everything looks normal now.
