Story Behind the Song
Jolie (the producer) writes:
"We recorded this song while Carmine was visiting NYC from Arizona...Carmine,Howie & I
did some pre-production and rehearsing, but Nick never heard the song until the basic tracks session, when we recorded the bass, drums and rhythm guitar. A few days later Howie came into the studio and laid down the killer slide/intro/fanfare and I overdubbed the acoustic fills. At the next couple of sesions,Carmine dubbed his engaging vocals, we cleaned up the tracks and added some sweetening with sampled strings...after an intense mixing session, we played the takes for another producer: Jill Wisoff (She did the sountrack for "welcome to the doll house" ) to get another opinion on which mix was the keeper; she agreed with my choice, so we went back in the next day to make a master...
Originally, Carmine had wanted to record an EP but his time in NYC was running out....so, I convinced him to make a video to go with the song! We shot the video in "Strawberry Fields" in Central Park with the creative and charming Doug Ingber...I was the stylist,make-up artist and the "Sexy Chick in the video"(though I do appear playing guitar). We filmed it two days before Carmine had to go back to Arizona...so he never saw the tape till after he got back there! "Destiny" the video was aired on MNN public access cable, where it was featured often, over the next 2 years on Doug's cable show."
Lyrics
DESTINY!
Hello, how are you my friend?
It's been so long since who knows when
and I just called to hear your voice again..
Now I must admit I miss your smile
and sure I'd like to reconcile,
so let's get together for awhile...
Maybe we could stroll along the beach,
skimming stones in water knee deep,
a picnic in the park under a tree,
I do believe,
It's our destiny!
Lately I've been thinking
'bout the night we met
and all those crazy things I said,
how I tried to get you in bed...
Girl, I'm sorry If I hurt you now,
but I had one too many rounds
and I would like to make it up somehow...
We could settle down just you and me,
pull up some roots start a family,
a place where we could live so happily,
I do believe,
It's our destiny!
Nothing could ever come
between the two of us,
you can call It fate,
I think It must be fate...
You can have most anyone,
but that's not the point,
the point is you love me
and baby I love you!
So I hope you'll have a change of heart,
even If men are from mars,
'cause I would like to make
a brand new start...
And now It's time to say goodbye,
my phonecard's running out of time,
so tell me that you'll keep an open mind...
So let's leave the past where It be,
the present is a gift for you and me,
the future looks bright
as far as I can see,
I do believe,
It's our destiny!
I do, I do,
I do believe...
It's our destiny,
I do believe,
anyway, I hope you get this message.
