Story Behind the Song
Saw a documentary about children in Brazil who were abandoned by their parents and by the society. They lived underground, had no food (except when they succeeded to steal something) and sniffed glue to be able to cope thru the day.
Sometimes they were "shot off" by the military/police for the same reasons as they shoot pigeons.....they make the streets "dirty".
This is only one country of many where children are neglected and abandoned. Give your support where you can and don't pretend not to see...
Lyrics
Screams out all your pain, still it just remains the same
Noone hears your cry for help, it's such a pity, such a shame
Close their eyes, don't want to hear, don't want to know about your fear
Looks the other way -Mind your own, don't interfere!
A child without someone to trust. A heart and soul that's just been crushed
There's no guiding light. He's finally heading for the drugs.
Why don't you see, why don't you realize they deserve a better life
Is it too much to ask for just to sacrifice:
A piece of your heart, a minute in a lifetime
More precious than gold, just give me your time
A piece of your soul, a time of understanding
A dream to come true. Let the pride keep shining
You let the years pass by and all the time you wonder why
- What can I do?, just give it one more try.
There is always hope, life's not only crimes and dope
Show that you still care, teach them to say no
Give them your heart and soul, try to make them see
that there's more to this world than just misery
Let's make this world a better place for you and me
A piece of your heart.... etc
You close your eyes, pretend not to see
You don't want to hear, that's nothing for me
So save your lies 'cause I don't care
There's no use if you won't share
Your world of money, sweet as honey
deceptive, filled with agony,
Search for immortality,
where's your pride, your dignity?
A piece of your heart... etc
