    Story Behind the Song
Up comes this guy, and says, what kind of stuff do you do? I say, well, we do what we do. And so I have the title for a song. Sure, we really only do twenty songs, me and Jimmy, maybe 30. This is a song for all pub duos, folk club casual groups, jammers and buskers!
The words were written one night, and polished up and recorded a few days later. The recording took about an hour in total. The lead vocal is Beyer M05 dynamic mike through a JoeMeek VC2 v2 Pro Channel, the guitar is my Lowden 0-10 miked with an AKG C1000S and played with a shaky egg in my hand. Then there's my Irish tenor banjo and a baritone ukelele, multitracked left and right of the main mix, and then there's two overdubbed vocals on the chorus, with different enhancer settings on the JoeMeek to suit the bass and tenor parts. Everything is one take, first take on a Roland VS-880 and there's some compression on the extra instruments and vocals, and some reverb on the lead vocal.

Footnote: 2003 - I don't sing this much now, our session song guru Jimmy (mentioned in the song) fighting big C and looking OK after two years of the battle, but doctor's ain't funny no more.

    Lyrics
    The Doo Doo Song

Oh we do what we do do
    What we do we do
We've half and hour of repertoire
    And that's enough for you!
We do what we do do
We'll play it all and then
We'll start once more where we began
    And do it all again!

We know the songs that we know
    Because they're what we heard
When we were young and sober
    Enough to learn the words!
Well, we don't know what you know
    And we don't really care
    If you wanted karaoke
    You should have gone elsewhere!

Oh we do what we do do
    We never need to pause
Because we do what we do
    We never get applause
Because we do what we do
    We never get a clap
    Except for Jimmy last month
And the doctor's dealt with that!

We do what we do do
    What we do we do
    We never need to practice
And we never need to tune
Oh we do what we do do
And when we've done it here
We'll go and do it somewhere else
    Where they've got decent beer!

We do what we do do
    What we don't we don't
What we like best is no requests
    So please leave us alone!
Cause we do what we do do
And when we've played it through
We'll start again where we came in
And do what we do do!
