When Silverman's original recording of this sonata was released on LP twenty years ago, Fanfare wrote: "Rachmaninoff's hand-divided melodies and counter-melodies sing out as they do on no other performance known to me. This is the kind of big, thunderous playing that makes one want to hear more." This recording comes from another session made slightly earlier for a record company that went belly-up before the album was released.
