Definite new wave mood in this tune. Lots of synth stuff going on, muted guitar, heavy twelve-string in the chorus, textured vocals. Written about the author's little brother and his fascination with television. Recorded at Gnome Park Studios in 1983 in Indianapolis. |
CD: Demo

Story Behind the Song
This song was written after trying to convince the author's little brother to quit watching television and "go outside and play!" Seriously, though, it realistically chronicals the plight of many Americans who sit idle in front of the "electronic income reducer" and waste their time and lives away. Lyrics are self-explanatory.
This song was actually introduced to the group by Palmer at a Catholic church where they happened to be rehearsing one afternoon (unsure how that came to be, but it happened nonetheless). The first keyboard riff was played on a church organ for the group. Palmer then played the guitar part and the song fell together. A lot of twelve-string guitar behind this one (overdriven by the studio engineer whom we affectionately called "The Sponge").
