Scott Skinner, the Fiddle King, announces himself in a squeaky voice before launching into a set of variations with an oddly Straussian touch. |

Story Behind the Song
The Sterling label was a short-lived but enterprising British concern founded by Russell Hunting, a Canadian entertainer, and the entrepreneur Louis Sterling (afterwards Sir Louis) who was later associated with the Columbia company. Sterling records were half an inch longer than usual, giving a trifle of extra playing time.
Scott Skinner, whose pieces are still treasured by fiddlers, was reputed to live largely upon whisky.
