Story Behind the Song
The inspiration for this song was a number I had heard in "Jesus Christ Superstar." I believe the title was, "I Don't Know Why He Loves Me." I wanted to write a ballad for the same character in "A New Testament Gospera." Although, this number is R&B, I was impressed with the finished product. The songs (melodies) are totally different but the message is the same. The woman is surprisingly confused, in a sense, that the Messiah did a good deed for her, asking nothing in return. She was accustomed to having (especially men) take from her. And if they were nice to her, it was after the service she provided. I worked on this song off and on for about one week.
