Story Behind the Song
Jennifer Miller, a featured artist in many of the Beauchamp-Cordova songwriter demos made a guest writing appearance with one of her ORU classmates, Mr. Carnes. As Beauchamp-Cordova songwriters took a little more liberal stance in many of their lyric writing endeavors, the song was unique as it introduced many of the conflicts that are often present in a believer's walk.
Lyrics
Draw Me Near
Listening to the lies.
Afraid to let them go.
Once again led astray
by making my own way.
All the lies and the pain
they're all I've ever known.
Even though, I know,
its a knife that drains my soul.
(Chorus)
Chorus:
Draw me near . . .
Take all my pain and fear.
Take away the veil I hide behind.
Do more than I could ever dream.
Draw me near, Holy Spirit, draw me near.
Torn apart by right and wrong.
The wrong way seems so right.
The right way seems so long.
I need your strength to carry on.
Make my someday my today
as I kneel to pray.
Minute by minute . . .
time slips away.
(Chorus)
