Story Behind the Song
In the late 1980's I took a stunning trip to the
Copper Canyon in the Sierra Madres of Northern
Mexico. This canyon is only accessible by train
and rivals the grandeur of our own Grand Canyon.
There is an ancient indigenous peoples that live
in caves along the canyon rim. They are considered
by some to be the most primitive extant culture
on the planet. Everything about the trip was
overwhelming and beautiful. I wrote this piece
the day after I returned.
